“Someone Else’s House” Brings A Bit of Horror to The Geffen

The Geffen Playhouse’s latest virtual production, “Someone Else’s House,” is a “true” paranormal tale which builds tension throughout for a surprisingly scary finish.

Written and performed by Jared Mezzocchi, the story tells the suspicious events of a 200-year old New Hampshire haunted home that his family lived in and eventually fled from before he was born.

Audience members receive a special Haunting Kit that can be opened during the virtual performance. A few audience members are called upon to interact and share information from the kit, but that is the extent of the audience interaction.

Throughout the hour zoom, Mezzocchi shares house floor plans, old photos, newspaper clippings and audio tapes from his mother allowing her to provide further information about the mysterious house.

During the storytelling, which Mezzocchi does an excellent job of narrating, make sure to keep an eye out for flickering lights, opening doors and other paranormal activity before the final scary reveal.

As the evening and the performance evolved, I found myself jumping at small noises within my own house, wondering who owned it before I moved in, and second guessing my choice to watch “Someone Else’s House” on my own.
