Food Trucks Come to NoHo to Benefit Dog Rescue Charity
An event on Burbank Boulevard provides gourmet munchies, and benefits MuttMatchLA.
Last Saturday I ventured a few blocks from my regular Toluca Lake beat to check out the on Burbank Boulevard in North Hollywood. As a food writer, I had to sample the variety of cuisine offered by some of L.A.’s top gourmet trucks.
Food trucks in L.A. are now a staple for foodies, offering upscale delicacies ranging from grilled cheese to sushi.
A few hundred people came by foot, car and bike to attend the festival, which raised funds for MuttMatchLA, a local dog rescue. There were plenty of cute pups for adoption. Additionally, there were local vendors selling jewelry, clothing, art sand crafts, live entertainment and radio station 100.3 "the Sound" broadcasting live from the event.

But I, and my two hungry neighbors Todd and Ray, were there for the food. There were a dozen or so trucks offering a wide selection of goodies, including Ragin Cajun Café, Komodo, Sweet E’s Bake Shop, Streets of Thailand, Chicago Meats, the Greasy Weiner, Baby Bad Ass Burgers, Fresh Fries, Kabobnroll, Fishlips Sushi, Del’s LA and My Tomato Potato. I tried “the Bomb,” a bacon-wrapped hot dog with mustard, cheese and grilled onions. The hot dog was “New Jersey” style, which basically means deep-fried on a steamed bun with a pickle spear on top. It was a pretty good dog, but I still prefer Pink’s. We also stopped by the Fresh Fries truck for natural-cut fries with a chipotle mayo sauce. These hit the spot and were perfect to warm us up on a chilly day.
Todd and Ray opted to split “the Bombshell,” a hamburger sandwiched between two bacon-and-grilled-cheese melts with grilled onions from the Bad Ass Burger truck. It looked like a heart attack ready to happen, but they gobbled it down and both gave it two thumbs up.

We all headed to the Sweet E’s Bakeshop truck for some yummy cupcakes to take home. Our favorites were the red velvet and chocolate espresso minicakes.
We each had a filling lunch, drinks and dessert for about $7. The next time the food trucks roll into town, I’ll be there to sample some more of L.A.’s best fast fresh food.
