Tolucan Expert Reveals Top Makeup Trends for Fall

With cool weather and the vibrant colors of autumn just around the corner, it’s time for women everywhere to start thinking about doing a makeover for a new season.

To find the latest trends in eye shadows, lipsticks and foundations, I turned to local Tolucan Dalbert Buitrago.

Buitrago has lived in Toluca Lake for 15 years and has been a makeup artist for over a decade at Barney’s Beverly Hills. He was recently named NARS Artist of the Year.

One of his pet peeves is women who wear too much makeup. 

“Most women don’t need a lot of makeup to look good,” he said.   “They should use makeup to accentuate their features and not to cover up areas they don’t like.”

He also advises to make sure to always blend foundation thoroughly.   One of the hardest challenges is finding the right shade of foundation. 

“Foundation should always match your skin’s undertones and blend easily,” he said.  

Buitrago recommends two new NARS foundations, the Sheer Glow and Sheer Matte Oil Free are both light and silky and even out skin tones.   Perfect looking skin is the basis for all looks going into the fall season.

The right brushes are also essential, said Buitrago. He recommends the NARS Japanese Kabuki collection. 

“It’s also important to constantly clean through your makeup arsenal and throw away any old products,” he added

Current trends include bold deep maroon and purple colors on lips, using black liquid liner along the eyelash line and vintage nude eye shadow colors. If drawing an even line on lids is a challenge, he recommends using a deep brown or black eye shadow and a small brush to blend eyeliner between lashes to make them look fuller.

Most importantly, Buitrago advises clients to use makeup to enhance, not change, your features.
