Alberto's Cantina Unsure When It Will Reopen After Roaches Found

Alberto's Cantino failed a follow-up inspection last week, but is taking its time to complete a deep cleaning, the manager said.

PLEASANTON, CA — Alberto's Cantina in downtown Pleasanton remains closed after dead cockroaches were found during an Alameda County Environmental Health Department inspection last Wednesday.

The restaurant, at 435 Main St., failed a follow-up inspection, and is taking its time to complete a deep clean and do whatever needs to be done to reopen, said General Manager Rene Lopez. Staff are taking the opportunity to make other repairs to the building.

Lopez is not sure when the restaurant may reopen, but hopes customers can return this week or next. Alberto's Cantina will post online when it's ready to reopen.

Alberto's Cantina appreciates its customers and is working to address the issue right away, Lopez said. He said his family and the owner's family eat there, and management wants the establishment to be as clean as possible.

Pleasanton Weekly first reported the restaurant had closed last week. The red placard — a requirement to let customers know an establishment has failed its health inspection — was not visible upon a reporter's visit to the restaurant last Friday, the paper reported.

Lopez said he wasn't there and can't comment on whether the placard was visible or not. As for the roaches, he said they can come in the street, delivery boxes and many other places.
