‘Beloved’ Former Amador Valley High Teacher Dies
The community, devastated by the tragic loss, is rallying to raise money for Eric Thiel's family.
PLEASANTON, CA — The Pleasanton school community is mourning the loss of beloved Amador Valley High School biology teacher Eric Thiel. Theil, 65, who retired Friday after almost four decades of teaching, died suddenly on Saturday. His cause of death has not yet been released.
“Our hearts go out to the Amador Valley High School community, Eric’s family, and to all those who knew and loved Eric over his incredible 38 year teaching career,” the Pleasanton Unified School District said in a statement. “Eric reminded us that great educators are not just teachers; they are also leaders, mentors and friends to their students and fellow colleagues. Eric was beloved by his students, and shared great friendships with a number of his fellow teachers.”
Flowers and notes have been left at the high school in honor of Thiel. A GoFundMe page created for Thiel’s family on June 4 has garnered more than $24,000 since it was posted. Click here to donate.
