Every two years, the City Council reviews and adopts a work plan that serves as a framework of priority objectives for which the Council and City staff will focus allocation of resources for the next two fiscal years. Work plan projects are identified by the Mayor and Council, City commissions and committees, City staff and community members. The workplan includes short-and long-term objectives, ranging from new initiatives to ongoing projects. Items were brought forward for consideration at the April 28 and May 4 virtual public workshops where nearly 100 residents provided feedback and input during public discussion.
Priorities in this newly two-year work plan include the design phase of Bernal Park Community Farm, design the renovation of Lions Wayside and Delucchi Parks, state required update of the City’s Housing Element, and the continued work of ongoing projects such as Pleasanton’s Climate Action Plan update, design phase of the first all-abilities playground, and new skatepark at Ken Mercer Sport Park. The plan also includes a new COVID-19 response and recovery strategies to address the City’s continued reopening of city services, fiscal stability, and monitoring and assessing community needs as it relates to the pandemic.

“For over 30 years, the City has adopted a work plan which provides a public process for the community to engage in open dialogue with the Council and City staff in implementing
our shared vision for Pleasanton,” said city manager, Nelson Fialho. “It’s a great testament to our elected officials, community, and organization that we strive to be intentional with our outcomes, as well as thoughtful and planned with our limited resources. With the adoption of new work plan, we have clear direction on the priorities over the next two fiscal years.”
The City will begin to work on allocating resources to achieve the work plan objectives through the City’s two-year operating budget and four-year capital improvement plan. These documents will be presented to the City Council for review and consideration in June, prior to the July 1 start of the fiscal year.
