PLEASANTON, CA — The English Rose Tea Room has closed its doors after 16 years of serving tea, finger sandwiches, scones and sweets in downtown Pleasanton.
"It is with such beautiful memories and a grateful heart that I want to let you know that The English Rose Tea Room & Gifts is closing," owner Lisa Binzoni announced on the restaurant's website.
Binzoni, a certified tea and etiquette consultant from The Protocol School of Washington in Washington D.C., said the timing meshed with her life plans.

"With the anticipation of twin grandsons on the way and my husband recently retired, it’s a new season of life," she wrote. "I will be forever grateful for the amazing privilege of owning The English Rose for 16 years and meeting so many lovely people and seeing the goodness of God each and every day!"
With its elaborate, afternoon-tea experience, the West Neal Street shop was a popular destination for such get-togethers as lunches, holidays, birthdays and bridal or baby showers, and received raves for its extensive tea selection and lavish assortment of savories, scones, sweet treats and tea sandwiches.

Over the years, the tea room hosted "Princess Teas," etiquette classes and tea tastings, and even scored a mention in an edition of "The Great Tea Rooms of America," authored by tea expert Bruce Richardson.
"Thank you for sharing so many special moments with us. My heart is overflowing with appreciation," Binzoni said in her farewell message to patrons. "I will certainly miss you all, and I pray every blessing upon you. May you continue to enjoy tea and all the joy that it brings!"
