Win A Custom Grass Mural From Patch

Looking for a truly impressive and unique gift for someone? A Calif. company will create a custom grass mural for you for free!

Have you seen the incredible grass murals recently spotted in Northern California?

In January, Pleasanton-based New Ground Technology made national headlines after they created a dramatic grass mural in memory of Kobe Bryant, following the sports icon's tragic death in a helicopter accident Jan. 26. In February, the company cheered on the San Francisco 49ers ahead of Super Bowl LIV.

Now, Patch and New Ground Technology want to help YOU create a giant grass mural message of your own. One lucky winner will be randomly selected to help create his or her very own mural, to be displayed in the Bay Area. Simply use the form below to sign up for our free daily newsletter and real-time news alerts from Patch and your name will be entered for a chance to win. Patch will select a winner and contact them by email.

Using a temporary "air printer," which does not damage the grass, New Ground will create a special message or photo for the winner in California as the weather permits. The image cannot be seen from the ground so New Ground will take drone photos of the mural and send the winner a high resolution photo that can be downloaded and printed. Patch will feature winner and their photo of the mural. New Ground's murals usually start at about $2,500 per mural.

If requesting a photo mural, the art must be a photo that you have taken yourself or own the copyright to. The photo, art or message requested by the winner is subject to the approval of Patch and New Ground Technology.

Contest temporarily suspended due to coronavirus shelter in place orders. Winner will be notified via email. Winner must respond within 48 hours before another winner is selected.

Image requirements from New Ground Technology:

  1. If it is a logo-type of image, New Ground will need a vector file in order to make it black & white (2 color).
  2. If the winner chooses a photo, only one subject in the photo and it should be high- resolution file (at least 2500 px). Subject needs to be clear, not blurry. New Ground removes the backgrounds from the photo (like in the Kobe tribute).
  3. New Ground does not guarantee the mural will turn out as crisp and clear as most of the projects listed on their website as it depends on the type of image used, variety and condition of the grass.
