Funeral Will Be Held Saturday For Beloved Middle School Teacher
An online fundraiser created to help Mark Tierney's family continues to grow.
PLEASANTON, CA — Friends and family will gather Saturday to attend a funeral for Mark Tierney, a Thomas Hart Middle School history teacher who died on May 3. Tierney, 46, was a Livermore native who grew up in Pleasanton and lived in San Ramon at the time of his death. He leaves behind a wife and three young daughters.
An online fundraiser has raised more than $43,000 since it was launched on May 5. The funds will be used to help Tierney's wife and children recover from the medical costs, services and other expenses associated with his death.
Tierney was a popular teacher who taught at Hart for almost two decades. In the wake of the heartbreaking news, school officials canceled the school's annual open house.

His funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. on May 18 at St. Joan of Arc Parish in San Ramon.
