PLEASANTON, CA — The community is mourning the loss of longtime Pleasanton resident Gretchen Piscotty. Piscotty, whose son, Stephen Piscotty, is an outfielder for the Oakland Athletics, died Sunday after battling ALS. She was 55. She was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's Disease in May of 2017, according to her family.

Last year, Stephen, the eldest of Piscotty's sons, was traded from the St. Louis Cardinals to the Oakland Athletics so he could be near his mom in Pleasanton. Stephen said family and friends rallied to help his family with meals, chores and errands over the last 12 months.

“The Athletics organization extends its deepest condolences to the Piscotty family on the loss of Gretchen,” said Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations Billy Beane. “She was a devoted wife and mother, whose legacy will live on through her husband, Mike, and their sons Stephen, Austin and Nick.”
