July 4 Security Crackdown Underway At Alameda County Fair

ALAMEDA COUNTY, CA — Alameda County Fair officials are implementing enhanced security policies for the 4th of July, including shorter hours, early gate closures, and regulations on items allowed into the fair. The measures are being implemented to ensure safety for fair patrons, officials said. Here's a rundown of the July 4 policies:
The fair will be open from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. on July 4, and there will be no fireworks show. Gates will close at 4 p.m., and the parking lots will close at 3:30 p.m., with no re-entry permitted. All minors under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult guardian age 21 or older. Additionally, all guests, backpacks, bags, containers and coolers will be subject to inspection upon entry.
Guests may bring food into the fairgrounds as long as it's contained in a soft-sided cooler/insulated bag. Hard shell coolers/ice chests are not permitted, nor will be any loose food or food in large catering-style pans, trays, bowls, etc. Cooking equipment of any kind is prohibited, including charcoal or flammable liquids, knives, metal utensils, or any other item that could be considered a weapon. Cans, glass containers, and alcoholic beverages of any kind are prohibited.

“Tailgating” in parking lots is also not permitted. A complete list of restricted items can be found online.
“Our top priority is the well-being of our guests,” said Angel Moore, vice president of business development. “We want to make sure that our attendees can continue to create fun, family memories in a safe and secure environment.”

The fair will offer all its traditional fun activities during the 4th of July, including horse racing, carnival rides and games, animals, exhibits, STEAM activities, pig races, entertainment, fair foods, shopping, and more.
