Michael Vieira earns BSA Eagle Scout Award
Michael's Eagle project was to build a Greenhouse for Jackson Ave Elementary School

Michael Vieira has qualified to become an Eagle Scout at an Eagle Scout Board of Review, held on August 5, 2020 at the age of 15. He is the son of Tami and Bob Vieira of Livermore and is a member of Troop 939 chartered by the First Presbyterian Church of Livermore.
Michael has been active in Scouting since 2009, starting Cub Scouts at the age of 5 and crossing over to Boy Scouts at the end of 5th Grade. As a Boy Scout he continues serving the community, expanding his knowledge, mentoring younger scouts and developing leadership skills. He has held many leadership positions in the Troop including Patrol Leader, Librarian, Quartermaster, Scribe and Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Senior Patrol Leader and Chaplains Aide. As Senior Patrol Leader during the first half of 2020, he adapted and worked hard to engage scouts remotely while in-person meetings were halted due to Covid19.
Michael truly enjoys the Scouting program which has taught him many outdoor and life skills such as emergency preparedness, first aid, cooking, backpacking, winter survival, canoeing, waterskiing, snowboarding, welding and many more. His training prepared him for a memorable 10-day high adventure backpacking trip to Philmont Scout Ranch in northern New Mexico in 2019.

Over the years, Michael has given back to his community by participating in numerous creek, lake, camp ground and trail cleanups, as well as food drives. He has also volunteered with the Knights of Columbus in collecting and distributing gifts and food for the needy during the holiday season.
For his Eagle Project, Michael organized and led volunteers in preparing a foundation and building a greenhouse for the Jackson Avenue Elementary School Garden. He put in over 150 hours in planning, preparing, and leading the construction of the green house. The green house has afforded the school to start their own seedlings to then transplant into their raised garden beds.
