Pleasanton Drug Take Back Program a Success

More than 750 pounds of prescription drugs were returned in two Pleasanton events last month.

More than 787 pounds of prescription drugs were collected during Pleasanton's Drug Take Back Program in April, run by the Pleasaton Police Department in conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Administration.

"This is a huge amount of prescription drugs that are no longer in residents’ homes or accessible to others for illegal/dangerous use or experimentation," the Pleasanton Police Department said in a press release.

There were two events in April, one at the City’s Operation Services Center
E-Waste collection day on April 13 and at the Pleasanton Police Department for Drug Take Back Day on April 27.

Perscription drug abuse is a growing epidemic and many people are getting addicted by raiding the medicine cabinets of their friends and family, according to the National Coalition Against Prescription Drug Abuse, a San Ramon nonprofit.
