PLEASANTON, CA — Pleasanton police officers rescued two dogs trapped in a car that heated to 132 degrees Thursday, as a heat wave swept the western United States.

Police saved the pups just in time, the Pleasanton Police Department said. A photo posted by police showed the parking lot of Stoneridge Mall.

"With this heat wave, we know it can be 'ruff' out there," police wrote on Twitter. "Please don't let your pets suffer in this heat, #Pleasanton."
