Pleasanton Teen Starts Jewelry Business To Follow Passion

She initially sought a way to keep busy during quarantine. She followed her heart and started her own business.

PLEASANTON, CA — As the coronavirus pandemic bore on, Amador Valley High School student Maddie Stokes, 17, realized she needed a way to occupy her time.

Stokes, who comes from generations of creative women, was out-of-work and in need of an outlet. She crafted here and there, but she needed a project.

So the environmentally conscious teen followed her passions — the environment and creating — and founded clay jewelry shop Broken Earth Designs. Clay earrings are special, she said, because they're lightweight. The materials come straight from the earth.

Stokes recently released her "pink collection," which features unique and bold geometric designs in shades of pink and red. There are studs and dangling earrings, shaped like arches, circles and rainbows. All of her hardware is nickel-free.

Pleasanton residents can see what's for sale on Broken Earth Design's Instagram profile and place orders by texting or emailing her. Stokes will deliver or ship to addresses in Pleasanton.
