San Ramon Police Investigate Report of Stranger Approaching Student
Extra patrols added during school commute hours

San Ramon police are investigating a report by a Pine Valley Middle School student that she was followed and contacted by an unknown man in the area of Northland Avenue and Davona Drive while walking home from school Monday afternoon.
According to Lt. Denton Carlson of the San Ramon police force, officers began investigating the case immediately and were given a description of the suspect and vehicle. Carlson added that police will actively patrol the area surrounding San Ramon schools with a priority on those times that students are walking to and from their homes and school.
The San Ramon Valley Unified School District sent the following message to parents in the surrounding areas near the school Monday night:

The San Ramon Police are investigating a report by a Pine Valley Middle School student that she was followed and contacted by an unknown man in the area Northland Avenue and Davona Drive while walking home from school at about 3:10 p.m. today.
The man is described as white, about 40-years-old, approximately 5-foot-10 with a muscular build, short blond hair with beard. He was wearing a blue t-shirt and black jeans. He was driving an older white minivan, with tinted windows. A white material covered some of the windows.

Both the San Ramon Valley Unified School District and the San Ramon Police Department take all such reports very seriously and fully cooperate to investigate. The San Ramon Police Department will have extra patrols in the area in the coming weeks before and after school.
Please take time to talk to your students about the following safety procedures when walking to or from school:
· Do not talk to strangers, even if they know your name.
· Always walk directly to and from school using the same path every day.
· Always walk or ride your bike with a group of friends.
· Run directly to school or home if you are approached by a stranger.
· Immediately notify a school official or parent.
