St. Louis Trades Player To Oakland So He Can Be With Ailing Mom
Yahoo! Sports reported that Stephen Piscotty was intentionally traded to the California team last week.

PLEASANTON, CA — A St. Louis Cardinals right fielder was traded to the Oakland Athletics so he could be closer to his Pleasanton mother who was recently diagnosed with ALS. Yahoo! Sports reported that Stephen Piscotty was intentionally traded to the Bay Area team last week.
Piscotty's mother was reportedly diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s Disease in May.
"At the time, Piscotty told manager Mike Matheny about the diagnosis. Fast forward to Wednesday, with Piscotty on the trading block. When news broke of the trade, it seemed like one of life’s great accidents that Piscotty got traded to one of the teams that play close to his hometown. But it wasn’t an accident or a coincidence," Yahoo! Sports reported.

In a statement to the news organization, Cardinals' president John Mozeliak said "You are never making a player trade simply for geographic or sentimental reasons. It had to be something that made sense for us."
On top of the trade to return Piscotty home to be with his ailing mother, Yahoo! Sports reported that "When his mother was first diagnosed, the Cards didn’t just grant hm time off, they offered access to any doctors in the St. Louis area who could help, and also offered connections to any MLB-related doctor.
