Surging Las Positas making final playoff push

In this week's Las Positas basketball report, the Hawks' men's team has a hop in its step with two Coast-North games left

Fresh off three consecutive quality performances, the Las Positas men's basketball team will complete the Coast-North season this week.

Coach James Giacomazzi's team is hitting its stride at the perfect time, with help from steadily improving perimeter play.
"I think we're playing our best basketball right now," Giacomazzi says.
The Hawks (16-10, 4-6) will travel to Chabot on Wednesday and then will host Skyline on Friday.
Las Positas stands to lock up a playoff spot with a win this week.
The Hawks have taken it up a notch lately with quality wins over Foothill and Canada and a credible 75-71 road loss to state No. 1 City College of San Francisco (26-1, 10-0).
Las Positas fought hard and led the Rams 34-33 at halftime but came up a bit short. Sophomore guard Nick Evans paced the Hawks with 19 points, draining five 3-pointers in the second half. His 3-point attempt with about 13 seconds left would have tied the game, but the ball hit the back iron.
Anand Hundal added 15 points against CCSF, and Peter Hewitt had 13. Evans’ former Freedom High teammate John Ketchel had nine points.
Hundal continues to average nearly a double-double in points and rebounds, and Hundal and Hewitt are both ranked in the state’s top 16 in rebounds per game.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
The Hawks, who have won three of their past five games, will travel to state-ranked Chabot on Wednesday and then will complete Coast-North play at home against Skyline on Friday.
Las Positas was led by Samantha Roney’s 12 points and Cyerra Dillard’s 14 rebounds and eight points against CCSF on Friday. Monique Cannady added 10 boards.
