23 Arrested On DUI Charges In San Mateo County Over Holidays
The operation was part of a national "Drive Sober Or Get Pulled Over" awareness campaign.
SAN MATEO COUNTY — The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office revealed this week that 23 people were arrested on impaired driving charges over a 23-day period during the holiday season.
From Dec. 11 to Jan. 3, officers conducted a DUI checkpoint as well as increased enforcement patrols, according to the sheriff’s office.
The enforcement program was conducted in coordination with the U.S. Department of Transportation’s “Drive Sober Or Get Pulled Over” drunk driving awareness campaign.

“We can’t stress this enough: Drunk driving is deadly, illegal behavior, and it puts the driver, his or her passengers, and other road users at terrible risk,” said San Mateo County Sheriff Carlos Bolanos. “The Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign helps our law enforcement officers better address this problem head on.”
Statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration report that 839 people nationwide were killed in crashes involving a drunk driver during just the month of December, 2018.
