$700M In Historic CA Jackpots: Mega Millions, Powerball Surge

Feeling lucky? California Lottery officials say we're gearing up for a historic prize offering.

Feeling lucky, California? How about ringing in 2018 as a multi-millionaire? California Lottery officials say that there are multiple chances this weekend, as both the Mega Millions and Powerball jackpots continue to rise. Both now have jackpots valued at more than $300 million.

If you add those sums to California's $10 million SuperLotto Plus game, a total of more than $700 million is on the table, officials said.

"This is only the second time in lottery history where Powerball and Mega Millions jackpots each pass the $300 million mark simultaneously," according to the California Lottery.

The Mega Millions jackpot, which is drawn Friday night, has not been hit since Oct. 13. It's valued at $306 million, pending last minute ticket sales. The lump-sum option on that is about $193.1 million.

"And since nobody matched all six winning numbers from Wednesday night’s Powerball draw, that jackpot has jumped to an estimated $384 million for Saturday night’s draw," the California Lottery said in a news release. "The lump-sum cash option is an estimated $242.9 million."
