Even on Rosh Hashana, Rabbis Plan to Party
Jewish New year, Family friendly Holiday Program. Shofar in the park

Chabad of the North Peninsula and the Chai Preschool are set to host a Rosh Hashana party in addition to their regular prayer services and children’s programs.
The Jewish New Year is traditionally marked in a Synagogue with solemn prayer. This year, Chabad of the North Peninsula and the Chai Preschool are inviting the community for a Rosh Hashana afternoon party which will feature apples dipped in honey, an exotic shofar display and a fun educational program for the kids. It’s all happening between 3:30 and 5:00 on Thursday, Sept. 21st, at the Japanese garden in Central park San Mateo.
“Our goal is to get the community enthused by Judaism; to make it meaningful and relevant,” says Rabbi Yossi Marcus, Director of Chabad of the North Peninsula. “Too often people are bored by services and therefore don’t bother with the festival at all, when there is so much to be gained and learned.”
Chabad also aims to brighten the services with insightful commentary, stories and plenty of singing. There is also a simultaneous kids program. “The kids services are so much fun, my boys are the ones dragging me to services,” says Debbie Goldin.
Larry Davidson says he enjoys the informative notes added to the services. “I do love to pray, but discovering the depth and history behind the prayers, in a more casual non-sermony style is a refreshing change from the services I remember.”
