Ex-San Mateo Co. Police Chief Faces Conflict Of Interest Charges
Michael Connolly resigned earlier this month as Broadmoor police chief after allegations that he placed himself as head of the department.
SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA — A former San Francisco Police deputy chief and police chief of Broadmoor, an unincorporated area in San Mateo County near Daly City, was charged last week by the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office with three misdemeanors alleging violation of California’s conflict of interest laws.
Michael Connolly resigned earlier this month as police chief of Broadmoor after allegations that he placed himself as head of the police department in 2019 while serving as the chairman of the Broadmoor Police Commission.
The district attorney's office announced the charges Tuesday in a news release.

Connolly had previously spent 29 years with the San Francisco Police Department. According to his bio on the Broadmoor Police Department's website, Connolly has served on the board of the police commission since 2016 and has lived in Broadmoor for 26 years. He is also Deputy Chief of the Professional Standards Bureau and works part-time at City College of San Francisco in the Administration of Justice program.
Broadmoor is a small enclave with a population of just over 4,000. Connolly could face up to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine, according to Mission Local.

Connolly is set to appear in court on Thursday morning in South San Francisco.
