SAN MATEO, CA — Traffic is back open Wednesday afternoon after a gas main leak on 15th Avenue caused the San Mateo Police Department to temporarily shut down Palm Avenue between 15th and 17th avenues.

The leak was reported at 10:17 a.m., and crews from the Pacific Gas and Electric Company successfully capped it by 10:57. Close to noon, the area was reopened to cars and pedestrian traffic, a San Mateo police spokesman told Patch.

The leak occurred after a commercial crew, at work cutting asphalt, sawed into a gas line serving a private home on the 100 block of 15th Avenue. The damaged line will affect gas service for one customer, a PG&E representative told Patch.
