Peninsula Cities to 'Light up the Town' in Fun, Festive Ceremonies

You can take photos with Santa, enjoy holiday entertainment, and children's crafts as you await the tree lighting ceremony. (breaking)

Looking to get into the holiday spirit on the Peninsula? Well, you have two opportunities within the next two days to do just that!

From the Town of Hillsborough:

Tonight is the Town of Hillsborough's 'Light up the Town' event. The evening includes photos with Santa, holiday entertainment, and children’s crafts as we await the tree lighting ceremony. Hot chocolate, specialty coffees, and treats will be served.

This event is hosted by the Hillsborough Beautification Foundation and takes place between 5:00 PM and 6:15PM at Hillsborough Town Hall.

If you cannot join in the festivities tonight, please drive with extra caution in the area. Expect some minor traffic delays and watch for pedestrians.

From the Burlingame Police Department:

On Friday, December 2, 2016, the City of Burlingame and the Downtown Burlingame Business Improvement District will be hosting the annual Holiday Tree Lighting and Parade. The tree lighting will take place in the City Hall Plaza area, followed by a Parade on Burlingame Ave. The following streets will be closed for this event:

  • Burlingame Ave. from California Dr. to El Camino Real
  • 200 and 300 blocks of Lorton Ave.
  • 200 through the 500 blocks of Primrose Rd.
  • 200 block of Park Rd.
  • Area around City Hall

The tree lighting ceremony will take place at 5:00 PM. A parade down Burlingame Avenue, followed by entertainment and activities, are scheduled immediately following the tree lighting. There will be an increase of pedestrian traffic in the area.

Visitors to the event are encouraged to use public transportation. For those who drive to the event, you are encouraged to park in the city parking lots around the area. Parking in the area will be limited and parking restrictions (no parking signs, etc) may be imposed around Burlingame Ave., City Hall, and parade route.

Please keep in mind traffic in the area will be impacted from about 12:00 PM to 10:00 PM. If you are attending the event, we encourage you to arrive early. For those needing to pass through or access the area, please be patient of traffic delays, and consider alternate routes.
