San Mateo Officials To Discuss US 101 Ramp Relocation

The City of San Mateo has proposed to relocate the Highway 101 southbound on and off-ramps to reduce traffic and improve safety.

SAN MATEO, CA — The city of San Mateo will host an interactive community meeting Jan. 27 to discuss the relation of an existing Highway 101 on and off-ramp. The project was developed to reduce traffic and improve safety for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists.

The project details that the southbound on and off-ramps from East Poplar Avenue to Peninsula Avenue to create a single, full-access interchange at Peninsula Avenue and Airport Boulevard.

Officials hope the project, will reduce the complexity of the nearby intersection.

"This would improve safety and traffic operations as well as reduce most typical travel times within the Peninsula Avenue interchange area for residents of both San Mateo and Burlingame," officials wrote in a release.

The reconfiguration is also projected to improve roads for bicycle and pedestrian traffic on Peninsula Avenue from just west of North Humboldt Street to North Bayshore Boulevard.
