Brookfield Appoints Acting Superintendent with Current Head in Arbitration

Acting Superintendent Ralph Iassagno will step in while the fate of suspended Superintendent Anthony Bivona is decided in arbitration.

While hearings continue in the proceedings to remove Brookfield Superintendent Anthony Bivona, the Board of Education (BOE) has appointed an acting superintendent, Ralph Iassagno, to lead the district as the new school year begins.

Bivona was put on paid suspension this summer after an audit showed the district had been using questionable accounting practices to overspend their annual budgets.

Iassagno, former superintendent of Trumbull Schools, was appointed to the interim position by a vote of 6-1 last week.

It is not clear how long he will be in the position, a report in the Danbury News-Times points out, however, once contract negotiations are finalized, he is expected to received around $110,000 in compensation, plus benefits.
