Brookfield Police ID Man Who Led Them On High-Speed Chase

The Brookfield police have identified the man they say sought "suicide by cop" and led them on a high-speed chase Friday afternoon.

BROOKFIELD, CT — The police have identified the man they say sought "suicide by cop" and led them on a high-speed chase Friday afternoon.

The Brookfield Police Department have issued a statement identifying the suspect as Junkye Allen of Gary, IN.

The Brookfield Police Department received a report of a "suspicious individual" at the Union Savings Bank at 200 Federal Road around 3:15 p.m. on Friday.

First responders found the man on Sandy Lane, and said he "stated he was armed and expressed suicide by cop," according to police officials. The man "became uncooperative" and drove off at high rate of speed. Police said that Allen "continued to drive recklessly with no regard for the safety of other motorists on the heavily congested Federal Road."

Police say Allen ran a red light near 99 Federal Road and struck a motorist that was traveling east from the Kohls/BJ's parking lot into the parking lot of Savers. The driver whose car Allen hit was taken to Danbury Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Due to the high volume of traffic, the Brookfield police called in aid from Danbury, New Milford, Weston, Bethel and the state. The law enforcement agents worked to establish a perimeter and secured the vehicle. Allen was removed safely from the crash and taken into police custody.

Allen has been charged with criminal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, weapon in a motor vehicle, interfering with an officer, disobeying the signal of an officer, speeding, passing in no passing zone, failure to maintain lane, reckless driving and failure to obey a traffic control signal.

He is currently being held on a $100,000 bond.
