Brookfield Business to Open 2 New Plants in China

The company makes photomasks, which are key components in the manufacture of integrated circuits and flat-panel displays.

BROOKFIELD, CT — Local manufacturer Photronics has announced the opening of two new factories in China.

The company makes photomasks, which are key components in the photolithography process used in the manufacture of integrated circuits and flat-panel displays. It will hold for a new integrated circuits facility in Xiamen, China on April 23, and a flat-panel display facility in Hefei, China, two days later.

Photronics intends to use it new points of presence in China looks to engage in research and development, manufacture and sale of photomasks, and becoming a critical local supplier to the China integrated circuit and flat panel display industries, according to a news release from the company.

"I am extremely pleased to celebrate this milestone, opening two new state-of-the-art facilities in China to support our customers’ operations with locally sourced photomasks," said Peter Kirlin, chief executive officer. "With the opening of these facilities, which are among the most advanced sites in our global network, we are the well on our way to extending our leadership position in the merchant mask market."

The new manufacturing facility in Xiamen, China is the result of a $160 million investment agreement with The Administrative Committee of Xiamen Torch Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone, a national-level hi-tech zone in China, announced in August 2016.

The location in Xiamen was selected due to the established technology park, close proximity to a large customer, and the existing supply chain infrastructure.

The new plants cost $320 million to build., and will employ 240 people. Photronics now employs 1,575 people, and is headquartered at 15 Secor Road in Brookfield.
