Brookfield Fire Crews Battle Early Morning Boat Fire

Firefighting crews, which included a tanker, engaged the blaze from either side of the cove.

BROOKFIELD, CT — Firefighters battled a boat afire on Candlewood Lake in the early morning hours on Friday.

Shortly before 3 a.m. both Brookfield fire companies responded to a report of a boat on fire in the area of the Brookfield Bay Marina. First responders reported a fully involved boat fire with exposures to surrounding vessels.

Firefighting crews, which included a tanker, engaged the blaze from either side of the cove, and extinguished it, securing the vessel near North Lake Shore Drive.

Mutual aid was provided by New Fairfield firefighters, and Danbury provided hazmat resources. The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection was called in to handle the hazmat situation on the lake. Fire units were clear at around 5:00 a.m., and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
