Brookfield Firefighters Battle Lightning Strike Blaze

First responders discovered a "substantial fire," caused by a lightning strike, burning in the rear yard

BROOKFIELD, CT — Firefighters extinguished a blaze caused by a lightning strike on Monday.

Around 4:30 in the afternoon crews from the Brookfield Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company were dispatched to investigate a report of a brush fire. First responders discovered a "substantial fire," caused by a lightning strike, according to the report, burning in the rear yard at 11 Ina's Road.

Lightning struck a tree and then traveled down to a large pile of dead trees and brush from last year's macroburst, the company wrote on their Facebook page. The fire was extinguished in 30 minutes, requiring 1,000 gallons of water.
