NEWTOWN, CT — A Brookfield man was arrested after a hoax 911 call, according to Newtown Police.

Several officers responded to a report of a fight between five and 10 people at an address in Newtown Monday night, but it turned out to be a false report, said Lt. Aaron Bahamonde, police spokesman. It was later determined that the call may have been revenge against an ex-girlfriend who lived at the residence.

Caller Erik Gilstad, 40, was tracked down and arrested, Bahamonde said. He was charged with falsely reporting an incident and misuse of 911.

"Due to nature of the 911 call a large police response was initiated, only to find out it was a hoax.
Bahamonde said. "It is very disturbing as the lives of our officers responding lights and sirens, the homeowners safety, and the general public were put at risk for a selfish individual who put revenge in front of every one's safety."
