Brookfield Museum Hosts Peter Markle Presentation

Markle will share the experiences of both his Grandfathers who served with the American Expeditionary Force during WWI.

From Brookfield Museum: On Monday, June 19, 2017 at 7:30 PM at the Brookfield Museum, the Historical Society will host a Power Point presentation by Peter Markle, A Society member. He will share the experiences of both his Grandfathers who served with the American Expeditionary Force during WWI.

His paternal Grandfather Clifford Markle was gassed , captured and wound up a prisoner of war and his experience was recorded in a book he later published titled “A Yankee Prisoner in Hunland” The forward to the work was penned by former U.S. President, William Howard Taft. He was awarded a Purple Heart.

He will also highlight the war experience of his maternal Grandfather John Stewart who served with the 107 th Infantry, was wounded during an attack on the Hindenburg Line and also received a Purple Heart.

Peter Markle was a long time resident of Brookfield growing up in the Candlewood Shores area of the Community. He was in the last class of Brookfield students who attended Danbury High School before the Brookfield High School opened. He is a veteran of the United States Airforce. .

Following the presentation complimentary refreshments will be served. Admission is free.
