Noted military historian, Ed Hynes, to speak on the history of our Star Spangled Banner March 2nd at 7:30 PM at Brookfield Museum.
The Brookfield Museum and Historical Society will host a presentation by noted military historian, Ed Hynes, on the history of "The Star Spangled Banner." It will take place Monday evening, March 2 at 7:30 PM. The program will be held at the Museum located at 165 Whisconer Road, (Intersection of Route 25 and 133) in Brookfield Center.
Hynes will explore how the Washington trial lawyer and composer, Francis Scott Key, from Frederick County, Maryland came to be on the British war ship, HMS Tonnant, during the Naval bombardment of Fort McHenry in Baltimore Harbor. He will explain how it was there at the Fort, on July 14, 1814 after the U.S. soldiers had raised the American Flag that "The Star Spangled Banner," originally titled, "The Defence of Fort McHenry," was conceived.
Also covered in this presentation will be the outcome of Key’s stay on the vessel, and how his musical composition eventually evolved into our National Anthem.
