BROOKFIELD, CT — Our Small Business Spotlight shines a light on local businesses we may not know that well.
Business: Toadstool Pond
Owners: Christine Greenberg
Website: www.facebook.com/toadstoolpond www.esty.com/toadstoolpond
Address: 34 Clearview Drive Brookfield but operated solely online
How did you come up with the name? Toadstool Pond is a carryover from another consignment business I had several years ago. When starting my business, I wanted a brand name that evoked a down home, peaceful feeling. Our business is all about creating a comfortable, eclectic home-decor lifestyle and so the name stuck.

What’s the most difficult challenge you’ve faced as a business owner? Relying solely on social media and word of mouth, the most difficult challenge is continuing to have a presence with our over 245,000 Facebook fans and keeping a solid Brookfield area client base.
What’s been your proudest achievement since opening? Hands down the best feeling of all is having local customers return time and time again for items that have been personally created for them. Having that sense of trust to create something meaningful for a client and knowing something you have created is adored and appreciated by another person is extremely rewarding.
How does your business give back to the community? We have been sponsors of many local charities including Women's Club benefits, Odyssey of the Mind fundraisers, Make a Wish Foundation and Habitat for Humanity.
