Brookfield Theatre Mourns the Loss of Longtime Volunteer

The Town of Brookfield & Brookfield Theatre owe a great debt to Larry Stewart for his extraordinary commitment to the arts.

It is with great sadness that we share the news that Larry Stewart has died after a long illness.

Larry first arrived at Brookfield Playhouse shortly after it opened. He was new in town and seeking to connect with other theatre people. He knew he had found his new home! Larry acted, directed, and helped with many, many shows throughout the years. He then served as the theatre's president from 1971 to 1982.

After leaving his role as president, Larry remained actively involved—watching from the wings and from the audience—offering encouragement and advice.

We were thrilled to celebrate his 80th birthday at the theatre in 2016 with a room full of relatives, friends, and theatre family from far and wide. At the celebration, First Selectman Stephen C Dunn declared July 3rd "Larry Stewart Day" in honor of Larry's commitment to the Town of Brookfield and to the Arts.
