Brookfield VFW Mount Flags Along Major Town Routes
Flag Placements this Year are to Honor Town Resident, First Responders and Healthcare Workers
In the early morning hours of May 9, before the residents awoke, over 120 flags were put on telephone poles along many of Brookfield’s town routes by the Jason D. Lewis Brookfield Memorial VFW Post. The effort this year was to pay tribute to the residents, first responders and healthcare workers of Brookfield. According to Joseph Beal, the Post Commander, “During our most challenging times our flag has always served as a symbol of unity, courage and fortitude, the very qualities which these past few months have characterized the people in our community. The flags will be a reminder to all who pass under them that as in the past, together we will meet and overcome adversity.”
To accomplish the flag placements, 20 members of the Brookfield VFW Post, divided into 5 separate teams, set out with each given different sections along the routes to mount the flags to telephone poles. The team assignments included drivers, flag handlers and ladder climbers.
As a result our National Colors now line Route 25 in both directions, northwest towards the four corners and southeast to Aramon Circle as well as along Route 133 for a distance past the Center School. Finally some appear on a stretch of Long Meadow Hill and Pocono Roads.
