The Brookfield VFW Post Hosts Veterans Day Ceremony
The Jason D. Lewis Brookfield Memorial VFW Post Honors Veterans at Williams Park Ceremony
The Jason D Lewis Brookfield Memorial VFW Post hosted a formal ceremony commemorating Veteran’s Day in Brookfield. The event was held by the Veterans Monument at Williams Memorial Park on Route 25.
Approximately 20 members of the VFWs Post were on hand as resident onlookers witnessed the ceremony,
The event began with Post Commander Joseph A. Beal calling the Post detachment to attention. The order was then given to present arms as the flag was raised by Post Adjutant John Kennedy and Honor Guard member Tabitha Potok. Immediately following, at exactly at 11 AM, a one minute moment of silence began. A tradition that traces its origins back to WWI when hostilities ceased at 11 AM as an armistice went into effect ending hostilities in the so called Great War. Today that moment is a tribute to all former and current service members who have served and presently serve in the Active Components, the Reserve and the National Guard of the United States Armed Forces. Commander Beal, then delivered a brief commemorative speech and the ceremony came to an end.
