Brookfield Woman Arrested Twice In One Day: Newtown PD

The woman was arrested for the second time less than three minutes after she exited the Newtown Police Department.

NEWTOWN, CT — A Brookfield woman was arrested twice in the same day with the second arrest coming less than three minutes after she walked out of booking at the Newtown Police Department.

An officer made a routine traffic stop Sept. 28 and found that the operator was the protected party in a full no-contact protective order against the passenger in his vehicle, police said.

Elayna Smith, 23, lied to the officer about her identity, according to police. She was arrested and charged with violation of a protective order and interfering with police. She posted a $500 bond and left the Newtown Police Department lobby.

An officer noticed that Smith got into a vehicle and that the passenger was the same protected party from before, police said.

She was immediately arrested again and charged with another count of violation of a protective order. She was released after posting a $1,000 bond.
