Brookfield Welcomes 'Gourmet Burger' Franchise

The chain is making its name by offering a wide choice of toppings, buns, patties, and combos.

BROOKFIELD, CT — Burgerim, a Los Angeles-based "gourmet burger" franchise, will be opening in Brookfield next month. Additional locations will be opening later this year in Connecticut. The Brookfield spot will be the first location in New England, the Danbury News Times reports.

The eateries are making their name by not just offering a variety of toppings, but also a varied selection of buns, patties, and even types of meat. According to their website, customers may choose from dry aged beef, spicy beef, chorizo, turkey, lamb, chicken, salmon, falafel, veggie and -- for a buck more -- wagyu. Naturally, they offer a gluten free option, and, perhaps not so naturally, a pineapple topping, along with the more traditional onions, bacon, mushrooms, peppers, greens and cheeses.

Their specialty burgers aren't the artery-accosting juggernauts that we Americans take as our birthright, but smaller 2.8 ounce patties, which fit somewhere between a slider and standard-issue fast food. But don't worry, Hoss, Burgerim makes it easy for customers to buy their mini-burgers in duos, trios or party boxes of 16 sandwiches. They want you to sample a variety of combinations in one sitting. The chain also offers onion rings, chicken wings, sweet potato fries, home fries, and, if you must, salads.

Burgerim opened its first restaurant in Tel Aviv in 2011, and now has more than 100 locations, predominantly in California and Texas. A franchise will open at 7 Federal Road in Brookfield in June.

The Brookfield franchise owner, Syed Shah, who lives in New Milford, told the Danbury News Times that "We differentiate ourselves with the meat options. No one else has this many options.”

He told the News-Times he plans to open locations in Meriden and Manchester later this year. All of the food is halal which means it is fine for Muslims to eat. He said the chain prides itself on gourmet and health options and not fried food.
