Coronavirus: 2 Members Of Brookfield School Community Quarantined

Both infected people have been instructed to remain home and isolate for 14 days.

BROOKFIELD, CT — A member of the Whisconier Middle School and a member of the Huckleberry Elementary School community have tested positive for coronavirus.

Both people have been instructed to remain home and isolate for 14 days, according to an email sent to the community by Superintendent John Barile Tuesday morning.

The last day the affected person was at Whisconier Middle School was Oct. 13. The COVID-19 patient from Huckleberry Elementary School was last there yesterday.

"We have not received any other reports of students or staff members experiencing illnesses with symptoms resembling those of COVID-19," Barile said. "Anyone who is considered a 'close contact' with these individuals has been contacted by now or will be contacted very soon and provided with instructions on the appropriate steps to take, which includes quarantine for 14 days."

Barile said that district officials are closely monitoring the quarantined cases, alongside Brookfield Health Director Dr. Raymond Sullivan.

COVID-19 is spread mainly via person-to-person contact through contaminated air droplets from coughing and sneezing by an infected person. Cases are on the rise in Connecticut, according to the latest data from the state Department of Public Health. Infections in the state have climbed by 1,191, and 12 more people died, since Friday.
