Grand Opening: 'The First Bite' Catering in Brookfield

BROOKFIELD, CT -- With another new month comes another new business opening downtown. The First Bite, a catering operation that has been in business from a rented kitchen in New Milford since 2015, is opening a storefront in Brookfield.

Growing into brick and mortar from what was essentially an online operation is usually a nerve-wracking venture for any small business, but The First Bite's owner, Anne McClelland, does not appear worried. She says she has been encouraged by "the sense of community and support for local business" she has found in Brookfield.

"I have received such a warm welcome, and I’m so happy to be a part of this great community," McClelland told The Patch.

McLelland plans on taking advantage of her new, physical location by expanding her enterprise to include cooking and other classes, like the knife-skills seminars The First Bite will be hosting in late July. She also plans on offering pre-order packaged meals starting in the fall.

The new business is rolling out the red carpet for a "Grand Opening/Open House" on Sunday, July 1 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. and will be offering "some cool drinks and snacks."

"We would love to meet our neighbors," McClelland said.

The First Bite is located on the new plaza at 540 Federal Road in Brookfield.
