Obituary: Gertrude Marie Bartley, 92, Of Brookfield

Gertrude Marie Bartley, age 92, of Brookfield, died on Wednesday, September 6th at her home following a short illness. She was the wife of the late Cecil Bartley.

Marie was born in Torrington, CT, July 11, 1925, the daughter of the late Axel and Margaret (Wagner) Anderson. She had been a resident of Brookfield for 61 years where, as a devoted mother, she and her late husband raised their family. Marie was a longtime member of the Congregational Church of Brookfield.

Marie is survived by her sons, Russell W. Bartley and his wife Katherine of Tolland, CT, and Ronald C. Bartley of Cornwall, NY; two daughters, Peggy Cocke of Afton, VA, and Joyce Pors and her husband Olaf of Charlottesville, VA; and one sister, Claire Whitney and her husband Warren of North Stonington, CT; seven grandchildren; one great grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

There will be no calling hours.

A graveside service will take place on Monday, September 11th at 3:00 pm in the Center Cemetery, New Milford, with the Rev. Jennifer L. Whipple, Associate Pastor of the Congregational Church of Brookfield, officiating.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers are requested to be made to the Book of Remembrance at the Congregational Church of Brookfield, 160 Whisconier Road, Brookfield, CT 06804.
