BROOKFIELD, CT — A collection of intricate and colorful quilts created by Avon textile artist Judy Ross will be on exhibit at the Brookfield Library Art Gallery from Jan. 3 – 31.

Visitors will have an opportunity to meet the artist for one day only, Jan. 12, from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. Inspired by her environment, Ross combines color, texture and dimension to create quilt-scapes that are of land, sea and air, and realistically stylized, close-up views from her unique perspective. She has exhibited in numerous galleries and shows throughout Connecticut as well as nationally and internationally. One of her quilts was featured in a 2014 book “Dare to Dance” by Mary Kerr.

"As an artist, I am inspired by my environment," Ross said. "I am drawn to fiber art because of the ability to combine color, texture and dimension to create something beautiful. All people have a connection to fabric for its utilitarian use, but I see it as a vehicle for the expression of art."

"I can’t think of a more appropriate exhibit in the middle of winter than beautiful quilts. This work is extraordinary. From a distance you will swear they are paintings. You will be amazed at Judy’s use of textures and choices of colors and you will see a wonderful balance of realism and whimsy. Don’t miss this unique exhibit in January." said Library Director Yvonne Cech.
