An Appetite For Business: Mayor Supports East Haven Eateries

EAST HAVEN, CT — Mayor Joe Carfora has a good appetite. And it's that love of food that translates into support for local business: he goes, eats and then shares to his social media.

When Papa's Wings & Seafood recently opened on Main Street during the pandemic, Carofra went and snagged some BBQ, then raved on Facebook.

This week, he may have been craving empanadas, the meat pie that Sabor Latino Deli at 405 Main St., will fill to order.

Carfora ate, grabbed some to go and then posted to Instagram his visit to the eatery that serves Mexican and Ecuadorian cuisine. Carfora is photographed with owner Gloria Hernandez and employee Carla.

Hernandez said Carfora ordered a plate of rice and roast pork, and empanadas, a popular dish, either savory or sweet.

But sometimes, the food comes to him.

In the case of his birthday, a "donut wall" from Petonito's Pastry & Cupcake Shoppe.

Carfora is also a cheerleader for the East Haven Farmers Market, and he posts an update about it weekly across his social media.

Good food from good neighbors is good business, Carfora says.
