Cooling Station Opens At Beach House As Heat Wave Begins: Mayor

East Haven Mayor Joseph A. Carfora has opened a cooling center at the East Haven Beach House now through Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

EAST HAVEN, CT —Monday through Wednesday, as the region is expected to be gripped by a heat wave with temperatures hovering at 90 degrees and a heat index of up to 105 degrees, East Haven Mayor Joseph A. Carfora has opened a cooling center at the East Haven Beach House now through Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

"These hot and humid conditions may cause heat exhaustion or heat stroke for persons working outdoors," Carfora said. "The elderly and very young are especially vulnerable to the heat. In addition, overnight lows will be an uncomfortable 70 to 75 degrees Fahrenheitor anyone without air conditioning. Those vulnerable to the heat should remain inside in air-conditioning and if you must venture outside, stay well-hydrated."

Those who wish to use the cooling station at the beach house must be vaccinated and be over 65, Carfora said.
