Debate or Lawn signs?

Why have debates when you can just put up lawn signs?

What exactly is this election all about anyway? Is it really as important as it is made out to be?

More specifically, is it truly about the future? And whose future, by the way?

I will, first of all, concede defeat to the Lawn Sign contest. Of who has the most and the biggest of them, today, hands down.

To the degree that it has almost anesthetized the minds of some, of the essential need to be informed, which a debate among us mayoral candidates would have provided, is if nothing else proving to be a good strategy for the Republican Party in their conscious and determined effort, to hide and protect their candidate from the sunshine of transparency.

And their evasive-maneuver strategy appears to be working as the Democratic Party now, seems to have joined the race and is apparently trying to play catch-up, thoroughly convinced perhaps that this election will be decided by lawn signs. (Whoever accused the religious faithful of suspending their critical thinking must have been unfamiliar with the nature and requirement of politics in government.)

So what happened to the debate? In fact why even have one when a simple “meet and greet” would do where the candidate can display all his charm (his mother taught him) which when accompanied by a wide smile and a firm handshake always warms the heart and in so doing avoid having to speak about the critical, possibly financially catastrophic truth that several million-dollar lawsuits our town is facing as of this moment, which the new mayor, whoever that would be, will be confronted with from day 1.

So where do the advantages of lawn signs come into the equation?

As much as I think I can come up with a rational answer, I would rather defer the same to my esteemed opponents. Mssrs Tracey and Carfora.

Oh come to think of it, I beg your pardon, but I think I got it.

The town as the current administration has repeatedly shown could always avail itself of the best mind(s) that bottomless-pocket can buy and the state has certainly many law firms from which to select from.

Not to digress but Mr. Maturo and 3 other officials according to the CT. Law Tribune is also facing similar lawsuits and the question to us is who would pay for their defense? But why would that question be relevant?

Well, allow me to put it this way.

Life is unpredictable and made even more so when we make life decisions based on what we feel and think we like; Not what we need.

That outlook; that he is- a- nice- guy factor elevated our current Mayor to achieve a unique status of being the longest serving mayor in our town’s history, and look at the insidious harm he did to our name.

So don’t do any of us mayoral candidates a favor; instead, think of our children and those children yet to be born, for this election is all about them or should be.

I welcome your comments.
