East Haven Man Took $88K In Dead Mother's Social Security: Feds

The SSA wasn't told Jovon Gamble's mother had died in 2007, so it kept sending her monthly checks, which he used, federal prosecutors said.

EAST HAVEN, CT —A 40-year-old East Haven man pleaded guilty to taking $88,000 in social security benefits that were sent to his mother, who had died.

Prosecutors said that from 2007 until 2017, Jovon Gamble accessed the benefit checks deposited into his mother's bank account from the Social Security Administration. Prosecutors said that the SSA was "never informed" that she had died and so the deposits continued to arrive.

Gamble, who will be sentenced in August, faces up to 10 years in prison. He has agreed to pay $88,150.78 in restitution, prosecutors said.
