East Haven Schools: 16 New Cases Since Monday, 309 Quarantined

Momauguin School was ordered closed beginning Thursday. Since Monday, four school staff and five students tested positive for COVID-19.

EAST HAVEN, CT — Momauguin School closed beginning Thursday, the same day as another batch of new coronavirus cases were reported at the Cosey Beach Road school. In total since Monday, there are nine cases; four staff and five students tested positive for COVID-19.

The school, while closed at least until March 15, has 166 kids and teachers in quarantine as a result of the outbreak, district data shows.

East Shore Health District director Michael Pascucilla told Patch late Thursday night that the health department is “investigating the situation” at Momauguin School.

“At this time, ESDHD in collaboration with East Haven school officials, agreed that the school needed to be paused out of an abundance of caution,” he said in an email. “Given the situation just occurred, we continue to conduct contact tracing and are closely monitoring the schools staff and students.”

In the district on Friday, two new cases were reported; one at East Haven Academy and one at East Haven High School, both of students.

The new case totals for the week, stand at 16 cases, as of Friday around 4 p.m., district data shows, and 309 are in quarantine.
