EAST HAVEN, CT — With a number of town employees testing positive for the coronavirus, including Mayor Joseph A. Carfora, and with cases rising in East Haven and surrounding towns, Town Hall will be closed to the public until Jan. 4, 2021.

"Due to the continued increase in COVID-19 cases in our community, and in the surrounding areas, there is an increased risk for the spread of COVID-19 infection to Town Hall employees and in an effort to keep town hall employees safe so that town government can continue to function," there will be no public in-person access to Town Hall save for "limited exceptions for essential services by appointment only."

In a news release sent to Patch, Carfora, who is working from home as he recovers from COVID-19, said that, "While we continue to work hard to limit any disruption to public services, we do request the public's co-operation by only requesting in-person appointments when absolutely necessary, and conducting routine business with the Town via email, on-line through the website, through the mail, or by telephone."

Carfora said that his administration, along with East Shore District Health, "continues to monitor and evaluate the situation in our community, and the surrounding area."

"We understand that this is an inconvenience for all stakeholders, but we ask that you recognize that this policy is being implemented for your safety and the safety of Town Hall staff in order to stop any further community spread of COVID-19," he said.
