Mayor 'Feeling Better, Working At Home' Offers Weather Caution
Mayor Joe Carfora, who recently tested positive for COVID-19 and is working from his home, issued a storm alert for residents.

EAST HAVEN, CT — Mayor Joseph A. Carfora, who recently tested positive for COVID-19 and said he's "feeling better" as he works from home, issued an alert for residents about the storm currently battering East Haven with heavy rain and high winds.
Carfora said after the state Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection updated municipalities about Monday's inclement weather conditions including cautions about high winds, falling tree limbs, coastal flooding and possible power outages, he had a conference call with the town's public works department.
"Our crew is appropriately staffed, and prepared should their services be required," he said adding that he's spoken to police and fire chiefs who both said each department is "staffed and always prepared."

"As with any storm our fire department reminds everyone of the following basic safety precautions," Carfora noted.
- Do not approach standing water with your car, it may be deeper than it appears, be extra careful in low-lying or flood prone areas in town
- Assume all downed wires are energized and do not approach them, call the utility company or 911 to report them
- Continually pay attention to weather reports and emergency alerts
- Make sure that portable electronic devices and cell phones are charged These weather events are always unpredictable.
Carfora said that those who are able to "stay home and off the roads, please do," but for those on the road, they should use "extreme caution."
